This first book in the Percy Jackson series is about a 12 year old boy named Percy Jackson. During a field trip, his math teacher turns into a monster and attacks him. His Greek teacher, who is actually a satyr (centaur), gives him a pen which can turn into a sword. He then uses the sword to attack the math teacher/monster. To hide Percy from more monsters, his mom takes him away to the beach. When the trip takes a turn for the worst, his mom takes him to Camp Half-Blood. There, Percy finds out that he is a demigod (half human, half god). Soon after, Zeus loses his master lightning bolt, and he blames Percy. Percy then has to find the lightning bolt to prove his innocence. Will Percy find the lightning bolt and prove his innocence? Read The Lightning Thief to find out! I recommend this book to anyone over 11, but especially anyone who loves Greek mythology. You should also be prepared to read a lot, because there are 5 books in the series, and another 5 book spinoff series. Rating: 5/5 bookish badges
